Well hello there. Here we are, first post, brand new blog. This is something I've been meaning to do for a while, the reasons being threefold:
1) I like to write.
2) I love punk music. Always have, and yes, always will.
3) I love turning people on to new music.
So take this as you will. Come back often if you like what I'm puttin' down. Don't come by anymore if this isn't up your alley. The point is to get people talking about/listening to music they might not have otherwise heard if they hadn't made a stop at this here blog. It'll mostly be me hammering out a description of their sound, maybe throw a comparison out there. Where possible, I'll point you in the direction of a solid track or video. If we're lucky, I'll actually get ambitious and get interviews of bands going. Album reviews? You betcha. And I'm always open to suggestions, so if you want to contribute, let me know. If you'd like me to talk about a band that absolutely NEEDS recognition and needs it now, and you're not sure how to go about doing that, hook me up.
So, with all that said, the first band I'll be gushing about is a (mostly) instrumental post-rock band out of Scotland by the name of Mogwai and more specifically, their new album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will.
Mogwai are now seven full length albums into their career, and they've only gotten better as time goes on. At times beautiful and atmospheric, at other times driving and urgent, "Hardcore..." manages to combine many different elements and make them work as one cohesive unit. Mogwai can take a straight-up rock song like "San Pedro" and still make it feel right at home with the wandering melodies that make up the album's opening track "White Noise". You could easily find yourself listening to an album like this on your daily run, or chilling at home with a bottle of wine. Hell, even throw it on when you need some background tunes to get the housework done. Good news for straight up music lovers, too: As mentioned, they're (mostly) instrumental. No worries about any possible questionable vocals or lyrics. Just click play and enjoy.
I'll share with you their rocker from "Hardcore...", the track "San Pedro". No lyrics, but I'll still somehow get this track stuck in my head now and then. Hope you enjoy and come on back for more.
